WHAT IS CREDO?
A literal, but stretched a little translation of CREDO is CAME TO
BELIEVE. CREDO is a weekend retreat beginning on Thursday evening
through to Sunday evening. The purpose of the weekend is to lead
recovering alcoholics and addicts to the point in their lives where thy
can understand the importance of spirituality in their lives, and
particularly in their recovery.
Although nondenominational, CREDO is Christian and leads to acceptance
of God as our higher power.
WHO SHOULD GO
ON A CREDO WEEKEND?
CREDO is open to all adult men and women who are IN RECOVERY from
alcohol or drug abuse, OTHER ADDICTIONS and their adult family members.
Each participant should be seeking to develop his or her spirituality to
enhance recovery, and to bring a deeper meaning to his or her life.
Men and women attend separate weekends. This helps cut down on
distractions and allows for each group to focus on issues to
spirituality particular to their sex.
WHAT HAPPENS
ON A CREDO WEEKEND?
Like many other retreats, those going on a CREDO Weekend hear talks
concerning God and spiritual matters. Unlike some of the other recovery
retreats, the talks given are written and delivered by lay people:
people who have been through the depths of addiction and have come to
believe that there IS a power greater than themselves. Those who give
the talks are not professional retreat masters or speakers. That is
what makes a CREDO Weekend so special.
Although a busy
weekend, there is time for quiet, personal reflection. Through out the
three day there are periods when retreatants desire moments to put into
perspective what they are feeling. What happens on the weekend is
sharing, learning, praying, eating, singing, laughing and some tears.
The outcome of the CREDO experience is a closer walk with God through a
closer understanding of the Third Step of the Twelve Steps.
HOW MUCH DOES
IT COST?
The cost for three nights and three days in a rustic setting (no radio
or TV) ranges from $75.00 $110.00, depending on the facility that is
used. All reading and writing materials are provided. There are three
full meals a day, and numerous snack times. Coffee and juice are always
available. Some places we use for retreats require us to bring our own
bedding or sleeping bags. The cost of the CREDO Weekend covers what is
needed on the weekend only. CREDO does not desire to make any financial
profit. If there is any money left over from weekend it is used for
necessary deposits for the next weekend and the cost of purchasing
supplies etc.
LEARN TO
SURRENDER
Finding serenity in recovery is an experience most often found following
a personal encounter with our higher power. In this encounter we learn
of the richness of the heritage we have in God and the reliance we have
on Him as well. It’s a gift. In this moment of light and freedom from
the shackles of the world and addiction we see clearly for the firs time
our capacity for love. WE ARE THE CHURCH. |
